COPA AMERICA: BRAZILTHRASH PERU

Brazil continued their sensational form at the ongoing Copa America tournament on home soil following the heavy beating handed out to Peru on Thursday night. Five-time world champions Brazil showed why they are the overwhelming favourites to retain the Copa America title following the 4-0 thrashing of the Peruvians.

Juventus left-back Alex Sandro set the ball rolling for the Brazilians inside twelve minutes and the result was never in doubt afterwards though Peru kept the Selecao at bay for the remainder of the first half.

Neymar has been the main man for Brazil in their World Cup qualifiers ahead of Qatar 2022 and at the Copa America tournament this summer. The Paris Saint Germain (PSG) attacking talent continued his form for the Selecao with the second goal of the game midway through the second half. The goal from Neymar doubled the lead for hosts Brazil and also took the former Santos and Barcelona player to within nine goals of the great Edson Arantes doNascimento popularly known as Pele. Brazilian football icon Pele scored 77 goals for Brazil on the international stage and Neymar is now on 68 goals.

Brazil went on to score two late goals through Everton Ribeiro and Toffees star player Richarlison to deliver a comprehensive victory at the expense of the Peruvians. Peru were playing at the Copa America tournament for the first time, while the Brazilians were featuring in their second game in Group B after the tournament opener on Sunday which ended in a 3-0 win over Venezuela.

The Brazilians have won their two group games at the Copa America tournament thereby securing a place in the quarterfinals with two games to spare. Their next game is on Sunday, June 20 against Colombia who are in second place with four points from two games played.
